Arthur Park

The structure multi-functions as an overhead shelter and for wind protection while serving a restroom necessity and was modeled as an archetype for future City parks.

Public facility and remoteness of the site dictated security and vandal-resistant materials of durable concrete block and polished concrete floors while the aesthetic necessitated a warm inviting atmosphere achieved with indigenous color palate while high windows illuminates the interiors with abundant natural light. The structure's tall spaces are open and airy and the high bank of windows gives the ceiling an appearance of weightlessness while wood accents provide warmth and are kept out of reach. The roof is low slope and blends unobtrusively with the horizon while lifting the fierce prevailing winds to provide additional protection for the adjacent play area.

The site is designed as a progression from parking lot to hardscape plaza to building structure to playground with manicured lawns and dissipates into un-irrigated native grass with a nine hole disk golf course that extends the remainder of the site. Deciduous and evergreen plantings blend seamlessly with the already established treetops of the perimeter neighborhood.
